I want to introduce myself. My name is Valentine. I lived in Rome throughout the next century. Which was long, long ago! During those times, Rome was ruled by an emperor named Claudius. I did not like Emperor Claudius, and I wasn't alone! A great deal of people shared my feelings.

Claudius wished to have a big army. H-e expected men to offer to join. Many men just didn't want to fight in battles. They didn't need to keep their families and wives. While you might have thought, not many men signed-up. This made Claudius furious. So what happened? He'd a crazy idea. This witty powered by wiki has limitless telling suggestions for the inner workings of it. He thought when men weren't married, they'd not mind joining the army. Therefore Claudius decided not to let any longer relationships. Young people believed his new law was inappropriate. I thought it was crazy! I certainly was not going to support that law!

Did I mention that I was a priest? Among my favourite actions was to marry couples. Even after Emperor Claudius handed his law, I kept on performing marriage ceremonies -- secretly, naturally. It was really quite interesting. Imagine a little candle-lit room with only the bride and groom and myself. We would say what of the wedding, listening whilst for the ways of soldiers.

One evening, we did hear footsteps. It was frightening! Thank goodness the couple I was marrying fled in-time. I was found. (Nearly as light on my feet as I applied to be, I guess.) I was thrown in jail and told that my punishment was death. Be taught further on this partner encyclopedia by clicking linkemporer.

I tried to stay happy. And have you any idea what? Wonderful things happened. Many young people found the prison to go to me. They threw flowers and notes up to my window. They wanted me to understand that they, too, believed in-love.

One of these simple young adults was the daughter of the prison guard. To get different ways to look at the situation, you are able to have a look at: linkempereor. Her father helped her to go to me in the cell. Sometimes we'd sit and talk all night. She helped me to keep my spirits up. She decided that I did the proper thing by ignoring the Emperor and going forward with the key relationships. On the day I was to die, I left my friend just a little note thanking her for her friendship and devotion. I signed it, 'Love from your Valentine.'

I believe that note started the custom of exchanging love messages on Valentine's Day. It had been published o-n the afternoon I died, February 1-4, 269 A.D.

Now, every year on this very day, people remember. But above all, they think of love and friendship. And when they consider Emperor Claudius, they remember how he tried to stand-in the way in which of love, and they giggle -- because they know that love can't be crushed!.
